One Surefire Way to Lose Weight

scale

How can I lose a few pounds?

As a health coach, I get asked this question over and over again. And the answer is simple: MOVE!!

If you just want to lose a few pounds, get an extra 20-30 minutes of walking in a day. If you work from a desk, get up every 1/2 hour or so and move for a minute. The more you move; the more you lose. After just a few weeks, I promise you’ll see the difference.

Losing large amount of weight is indeed more complicated. And that’s where I come in as Health Coach. I counsel on habits, nutrition, exercise, lifestyle areas, relationships, careers and likewise. When you really want to shed a lot of weight, you really have to dive in with both feet.

I love working with my clients; whether its in person, over the phone, or through video chat. The personal connection and the relationships that are built while helping others achieve their health and life goals is life changing and so special to me.

I give no-cost consultations weekly.. and I’d love to chat with you! We can talk about where you are and where you’d like to be, and what we can do to get you there!!

Are you getting the most you can out of seeing your doctor?

doc

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been to the doctor… but let’s just say I’m somewhat of an expert now.  After years of seeing docs on a weekly basis, I’ve learned how to pin point the ones that are there to help me and the others who really aren’t.

Doctors visits aren’t cheap, even with insurance.  Appointment space is limited and visits are short.  This is why I want to make sure you, as well as everyone else, are getting the most out of your doctor’s visits!  Here are some great tips on how to make your doctor’s visits as valuable as you can:

What to prepare for your appointment:

-Write down a list of symptoms you are having (If you have a health concern or problem) and how frequently you are having them

-Write down any questions you will want to ask your doctor

-Have a list of the medications and supplements you take and their doses (especially any new ones)

-Know all you can about shots (flu shots, tetanus shots, and other shots).  Some shots need to be updated every so often and your doctor will ask you on the spot If you want a particular shot.  They may even administer them that day.  Know what they are and the side effects before you say yes.

Here are a couple questions you should be asking yourself after your appointment:

-Do you trust your Doctor?

-Did you have adequate time to explain your concerns?

-Did your Doctor listen to you attentively?

-Are you comfortable asking your doctor questions?

-Are  you comfortable with your doctor?

-Do you feel your doctor has your best interest in mind?

-Do you feel like you were listened to in a non-judgemental way?

-Did your Doctor give you more than one option of how to treat a particular problem?

-Did your Doctor offer any natural solutions to healing a problem or issues (through diet, exercise, herbs, or natural products)?

Our health is so important.  Our doctors should think so too.  Make sure you are seeing a health practitioner you feel is the right fit for you and wants to help you be the healthiest you can be.

Health coaches are great advocates for their patients health and are fabulous at putting the “pieces of the puzzle together.”  They assist their patients in finding natural cures to ailments, help them in choosing the right kind of foods to eat, and counsel patients on health, relationships, career, exercise and spirituality.  They are great at referring patients to the right kind of doctor’s when a medication should be prescribed.  Health Coaches go to bat for their patients and their patient’s health.

I am so lucky to be a health coach myself.  If you would like a free consultation with me, go to my website, pacificnorthwesthealth.com and click on the connect link and then the free consultation link.

I want the best for you!  To your health!

Even Jennifer Lopez has a health coach!

Jennifer Lopez drinks green juice three times a day.

The ‘On the Floor’ hitmaker – who has five-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony – is determined to be in great shape when she returns to the ‘American Idol’ judging panel in January and has been working with a health coach to overhaul her eating habits.

A source said: ”She hired a health coach and they worked on using foods and fresh vegetable juices to cleanse her organs.

”She has green juice with kale, parsley and wheat grass three times a day. She’s been eating quinoa and has cut out wheat and all things processed.”

Although Jennifer initially found her new diet plan tough, she has already lost 15lbs and is delighted with the results.

The source added to the National Enquirer magazine: ”She only eats meat that is organic, free range and grass fed and for the first month she cut out all animal products. It wasn’t easy, but she says it’s the best thing she’s done for her body.”

How to Make 2014 Your Best Year Yet!

armsup

by Autumn Pappas, CHHC, AADP

There’s no time like the present to live your life the way it was meant to be lived! Here are some tips on how to make your 2014 memorable, enlightening and exciting!

Make a bucket list for 2014. Want to visit Easter Island, adopt a pet, get your finances on track, or start a foundation? A bucket list is a list of intentions, experiences or goals that a person wants to accomplish in a specific time frame. Bucket lists are unique to each person, as no two people have the same desires and wants. Some people refrain from writing bucket lists because the enormity of the items on the list can be rather daunting. My tip: Dream small and big. Small things are more attainable but larger things change us forever.

Forgive someone; even if it’s yourself. We’ve all experienced wrongdoings, some that have even shaken us to our core. We can’t change the past but we can ruin our future by holding on to things in the present. Not sure where to begin? Check out a book on Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, or Desmond Tutu; they are all great role models of the power of forgiveness. Lewis B. Smedes said, “To forgive is to set a prisoner free, and to discover that the prisoner was you.”

Hire A Health and Lifestyle Coach.  Many of us have goals, but have a hard time reaching them without an accountability partner.  Some of us need others to help us devise plans so that we can reach our goals.  Health and lifestyle coaches are great for both.  They work with you step-by-step as your partner and your coach to assist you in becoming your greatest self.  In addition, health coaches know a lot about the best ways to lose weight, boost your energy, and fix health issues that keep you from living life to the fullest.  Check out www.pacificnorthwesthealth.com and click the “connect” link to sign up for a free consultation with me, a Board Certified Health and Lifestyle Coach.

Commit to being at least 10% healthier. This small change can reap huge rewards! Do you want to add a new exercise routine into your daily schedule, stop eating processed foods during the week, or invest in new superfoods and supplements to boost your immunity? Whatever choice you make, make it a healthy one! I guarantee you will see the difference.

Give up your self-sabotaging talk. Ask yourself, “How am I serving myself by believing this quality, characteristic, or idea about myself?” Negative personal beliefs can create self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, anger and fear. Furthermore, they can affect our relationships and health. Let go of your limiting beliefs, commit to slowly changing your downfalls and move forward knowing the best version of yourself is at your fingertips.

Create a daily task list, prioritize it, and allot time for each activity. How many of us start the day full of ambition, only to end up accomplishing a quarter of the tasks we wanted to? My advice: Set daily intentions as soon as you wake up, and use a calendar or planner in order to stay organized and on top of your goals. Additionally, have an activity planned outside your home in the morning that will “jump start” your day.

Lastly, live your purpose! What is that one thing that you know in your heart that you were put here on this earth to do? Have you accomplished it yet? As author Steve Maraboli once said, “You were put on this earth to achieve your greatest self, to live out your purpose, and to do it fearlessly.”

Cheers to a Happy and Very Healthy 2014!
