Hello Followers!  Did you start following my Happy Health Coach blog because you needed some inspiration!? Or something to counteract those negative feelings and thoughts that are swimming around in your head?  Well, if you did, here is your…shot of sunshine for the day!

Five Tips for Overcoming Negative Thoughts:

1. Surround Yourself with Positive People

It’s true!  We do adopt the characteristics, thoughts and feelings of those who we are in contact with on a regular basis.  Do you have toxic friends or co-workers?  Maybe a toxic family member? Find some new friends and peers to hang out around who live life the way you want to live it!  Healthy, happy friends are an important part of a healthy, happy lifestyle.

2. Help Someone

Assisting others with their needs will help you get the focus off of little distractions and thoughts that consume your mind and lead to depression, anxiety and stress.  Helping others boosts one’s confidence, creates feelings of compassion and nurtures your spirit.

3. Write a Gratitude List

Start a gratitude journal that you write in daily before bed or as soon as you wake up in the morning.  Write down anything and everything you are grateful for– even if those things feel insignificant!  Try it out for a week to start–I know you will see a difference in your life!

4. Sing to Upbeat Music

Crank up your stereo, radio or boom box!  Music has a way of speaking to our soul and our hearts like nothing else in this world can.  You become what you consume. Listen to happy music and your negative thoughts will internally start to change.

5. Give Yourself Permission to Turn Your Day Around at any Given Moment

Did your day start out sour?  Who says it has to stay that way?  We often judge our days by the way our morning started out.  Our thinking process goes something like this, “Good morning=good day and bad morning=bad day.”  I’m telling you–it doesn’t have to be that way!  What if you decided that Mondays were now the best day of the week instead of the worst?  How would that change your life?

Is sugar toxic for our bodies?


There has been a lot of talk about sugar in the news lately with the foreboding question, “How bad is sugar for our bodies?  Many people, even doctors, can argue both sides of the case.  Some say that sugar doesn’t harm our bodies while others claim it’s extremely toxic.  Here is what I know about sugar:

Sugar is linked to obesity, cancer, hypertension, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.  When we eat too much sugar, our liver gets overloaded with fructose and converts some of the sugar into fat.  Some of that fat ends up in our blood stream.  Every cell in our body does need glucose to survive, but tumors also need glucose (sugar) to grow.

So what is the simple answer?  Approach your diet with balance.  Keep sugar to a minimum.  If you limit sugar, you will decrease your chance of getting cancer.  Stay away from processed foods–they are filled with hidden sugars.  Find something in your life that creates joy and will satisfy you like a sugar binge would — whether it’s exercise, sports, creativity, a hobby, or music…. Your body will thank you for it.

Is there a Cancer Cure in Tree Bark?

Pau d’arco, from the Lapacho tree, has been studied by many people, cultures and institutions showing one similar finding: it is a bark with unbelievable health benefits. Pau d’arco comes from an evergreen tree that grows in South America. Because this tree (Tabebuia avellanedae) is now endangered, people are harvesting tree bark from similar species with intentions of either curing disease or turning profits. The greatest attribute found in this tree bark is a possible cure for cancer.

The University of Maryland Medical Center found that the bark of the Lapacho tree has anti-cancer properties, and is also anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, antifungal and antibacterial. Not much testing has been done on humans, but unconfirmed studies by researchers show that the bark stimulates immune system cells called macrophages.  The bark extract reportedly kills lung and liver cancer cells that are grown in test tubes.

The tea, which is often called Taheebo tea, is hard to mix with water but has been reported to have cured some people’s illnesses.   On the CureZone website is a testimonial that claims the tea cured lymphoma in a man who was diagnosed and told he would only live a matter of months.   In 2009, Anna Hodgekiss from Mail Online reported a woman who had been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and set out on a venture to cure the ailment by eating various tree barks.  She did not specify the bark she might have eaten over the years, but her physician says there is no trace of Crohn’s disease in her body now.  The woman reports selling the beneficial bark to a “pharmaceutical giant.”

Common uses of Pau d’arco listed by the University of Maryland Medical Center are for the treatments of candidiasis, herpes simplex virus, influenza, parasitic diseases, bacterial infection and cancer. Louise Tenney writes in the Cancer News Journal that this tree bark, often referred to as Taheebo, Ipe Roxo, Lapacho and Pau d’arco, has curative powers that have time and again relieved “thousands of people with untold suffering.”

Distributors with the Taheebo Tea Club report a client has cured a skin condition in their dog. The owner of the Taheebo Tea Club also stands by his belief that the cure for cancer is in this tree bark.  The group claims to have cured brain cancer in a client, and to have also cured cancer of the colon that was diagnosed in the owner’s father.  Although the tree that produces this famous bark is endangered, the Taheebo Tea Club claims there is no need to kill the tree just to harvest the bark. Their method strips the wood in a way that leaves the tree standing for another harvest.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) reports high levels of bark extract has the potential to be poisonous. But there was one study conducted in the 1970s by the National Cancer Institute that found no toxic effects on liver or kidney tissue.

Another risk the ACS reports comes from the products being falsely advertised as Pau d’arco when they are actually other tree barks.  Twelve sample products were tested in Canada, and the study showed that only one contained lapochol, which is an ingredient in pure Pau d’arco.

The University of Maryland Medical Center warns people that this bark in high doses can cause uncontrollable bleeding, as it is thought to be a blood thinner (others report this is a blood builder and a tonic that is used to treat anemia).  The uncommon side effects of Pau d’arco include “anemia, nausea, diarrhea, and dizziness.”  So, it is hard to tell how beneficial this herb exactly is, but people around the world want to see firsthand if the cure for cancer really is in this tree bark.

Pour Me A Glass of Coconut Water!


When was the last time you sipped on a glass of refreshing coconut water?

Coconut water was used in the 2nd World War as a blood substitute when blood plasma was low.  Believe it! It’s colony of liquid cells make it a healing liquid with living energy.  Its filled with vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes and is a great immune system enhancer.

Coconut water not only alkalizes your digestive system and aids in digestion but it is also beneficial for diabetic patients! It balances blood sugar levels because it contains an amino acid named arginine, which helps to moderate sugar absorption.

Coconut is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal;  fighting yeast overgrowth!  So drink up if your fighting a cold or bug!  Additionally, it can also lessen eczema and balance hormones.

Know any balding friends?!  Coconut water promotes hair growth!  That’s pretty amazing if you ask me.

So next time your at the market, pick some coconut water up!  Your body will be feeling like paradise in no time!

Even Jennifer Lopez has a health coach!


Jennifer Lopez drinks green juice three times a day.

The ‘On the Floor’ hitmaker – who has five-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony – is determined to be in great shape when she returns to the ‘American Idol’ judging panel in January and has been working with a health coach to overhaul her eating habits.

A source said: ”She hired a health coach and they worked on using foods and fresh vegetable juices to cleanse her organs.

”She has green juice with kale, parsley and wheat grass three times a day. She’s been eating quinoa and has cut out wheat and all things processed.”

Although Jennifer initially found her new diet plan tough, she has already lost 15lbs and is delighted with the results.

The source added to the National Enquirer magazine: ”She only eats meat that is organic, free range and grass fed and for the first month she cut out all animal products. It wasn’t easy, but she says it’s the best thing she’s done for her body.”
